Elvis Jailhouse Rock 1957 MerlinGold Coin
[+] enlarge image

No collection dedicated to Elvis Presley® can be complete without this tribute to the King’s multiple talents. This distinctive collectible coin pays tribute to both Elvis Presley the rock and roll icon and Elvis Presley the actor, capturing his smoldering dance number from his critically acclaimed feature film, “Jailhouse Rock,” which featured his hard-driving #1 single of the same name. The film stars Presley as a hothead convicted for manslaughter. Despite being cheated by his cellmate and his own character flaws, he emerges a success with a singing career and the love of a good woman. The single, written by the prolific and successful songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who wrote a dozen of Presley’s hits. “Jailhouse Rock” topped the charts for seven weeks in 1957.

This Elvis #1 Gold “Jailhouse Rock” Coin is suitably minted in MerlinGold®, a proprietary alloy of gleaming golden bronze with a proof-like character and luster. Minted in the USA, the obverse of the “Jailhouse Rock” coin depicts two iconic views of the King: a frame frozen from his high-energy dance from the film, and in profile highlighting his fabled ducktail hairstyle and lip curl. The reverse is a replica 45 RPM record of “Jailhouse Rock.” Though you can’t play it on your phonograph or your CD player, this collectible version of the Elvis Presley #1 hit most associated with his enormously successful film career – he was a top ten draw from 1956-1958 and 1961-1967 – belongs in the hands of every Elvis Presley fan. Whether buying it as a gift or for yourself, it will serve as a tangible way to remember the most famous party a warden ever threw in a county jail.

Elvis Heartbreak Hotel 1956 MerlinGold Coin
With a voice that was equal parts danger and delight and with hips that shook to the new beat that shocked 1950s America, it’s no wonder that millions revere Elvis Presley® as “the King of Rock and Roll.” If you are one of the King’s loyal musical subjects, you’ll want to own this unique collectible coin in tribute to Elvis Presley’s chart-topping hits as replica 45 RPM records, Elvis #1 Gold. In 1955 RCA Records obtained Elvis Presley’s recording contract from Sun Records, setting the stage for his first pop #1 hit, “Heartbreak Hotel.” Written by Mae Boren Axton, a high school teacher and music promoter, and singer-songwriter Tommy Durden. The tune’s haunting lyrics were inspired by a news item Durden had read about a man who killed himself, leaving a note with a single, sorrowful line, “I walk a lonely street.” Boren suggested that there should be a “Heartbreak Hotel” at the end of the street, and the song was written. Recorded at Presley’s first recording session for RCA on January 10, 1956 with Chet Atkins and Floyd Cramer joining in with his regular band, the Blue Moon Boys, it was shipped as a single on January 27, and topped the charts by spring.

Elvis Stuck On You 1960 MerlinGold Coin
In 1958, “the King of Rock and Roll” was inducted into the US Army – and emerged two years later an even bigger star with a wider appeal. Capture that universal appeal by including this Elvis #1 Gold “Stuck On You” Coin in your collection of essential Elvis memorabilia. Elvis was determined to avoid special treatment during his military service, notably submitting to a military haircut (after which he joked, “Hair today, gone tomorrow”). Serving with the Third Armored “Spearhead” Division in Friedberg, Germany, Elvis ultimately achieved the rank of Sergeant E-5 and was officially discharged from active duty on March 5, 1960. Almost immediately, he went back into the recording studio for “Stuck on You,” which took a handful of weeks to reach #1, the thirteenth of Elvis’s records to achieve the top of the charts.
