"I'll never forget the night my father, Sam Phillips, brought home Elvis' first record…the sound that was generated by that Sun 45, and the sheer excitement on my father's face…it's all encapsulated in that one moment. And in that moment, I think, everything changed." -Knox Phillips, 2004

"I don't sound like nobody!" -Elvis Presley, 1954

"That's All Right" was rock 'n' roll's Big Bang. It was July 5, 1954 and Elvis Presley had just begun a 17-month association with Sun Records that ultimately changed both popular music and popular culture forever. That day, Elvis synthesized everything he knew into an entirely new life-form, an achievement that has been so analyzed and chronicled that it takes the re-release of his original Sun recordings to emind us just how remarkable it was.

July 5, 2004 marks the 50th Anniversary of the recording of "That's All Right" at Sun Studios in Memphis. This milestone event is an anniversary considered to be the "birth of rock 'n' roll." In these recordings, Elvis discovered what he was placed on this earth to do. Rock. With Sam Phillips at his side, over the course of a few months in the mid-1950s, he invented the sound and the look of rock 'n' roll. This comprehensive single-disc set follows the formative early career of Elvis Presley and his transcendent body of work at Sun Records. Beyond essential, this collection includes all 5 of Elvis' original Sun singles (A & B sides) and rare alternate takes.
