  • The Ear of the Heart: An Actress' Journey from Hollywood to Holy Vows
    Item #: EPAM3770
"Listen and attend with the ear of your heart." - Saint Benedict. Dolores Hart stunned Hollywood in 1963, when after ten highly successful feature films, she chose to enter a contemplative monastery. Now, fifty years later, Mother Dolores gives this fascinating account of her life, with co-author and life-long friend, Richard DeNeut. Dolores was a bright and beautiful college student when she made her film debut with Elvis Presley in Paramount's 1957 Loving You. She acted in nine more movies with other big stars such as Montgomery Clift, Anthony Quinn and Myrna Loy. She also gave a Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway play The Pleasure of His Company and appeared in television shows, including The Virginian and Playhouse 90. An important chapter in her life occurred while playing Saint Clare in the movie Francis of Assisi, which was filmed on location in Italy. Born Dolores Hicks to a complicated and colorful Chicago family, Mother Dolores has travelled a charmed yet challenging road in her journey toward God, serenity and, yes, love. She entered the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut, at the peak of her career, not in order to leave the glamorous world of acting she had dreamed of since childhood, but in order to answer a mysterious call she heard with the "ear of the heart". While contracted for another film and engaged to be married, she abandoned everything to become a bride of Christ.

  • Scotty and Elvis: Aboard the Mystery Train Paperback Book
    Item #: EPAM3735
When Elvis Presley first showed up at Sam Phillips's Memphis-based Sun Records studio, he was a shy teenager in search of a sound. Phillips invited a local guitarist named Scotty Moore to stand in. Scotty listened carefully to the young singer and immediately realized that Elvis had something special. Along with bass player Bill Black, the trio recorded an old blues number called "That's All Right, Mama." It turned out to be Elvis's first single and the defining record of his early style, with a trilling guitar hook that swirled country and blues together and minted a sound with unforgettable appeal. Its success launched a whirlwind of touring, radio appearances, and Elvis's first break into movies. Scotty was there every step of the way as both guitarist and manager, until Elvis's new manager, Colonel Tom Parker, pushed him out. Scotty and Elvis would not perform together again until the classic 1968 "comeback" television special. Scotty never saw Elvis after that.

  • Elvis Hound Dog Book (The Leiber & Stoller Autobiography)
    Item #: EPAM3728
In 1950, a couple of rhythm-and-blues–loving teenagers named Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller met for the first time. They discovered their mutual affection for R&B, and, as Jerry and Mike put it in this fascinating autobiography, began an argument that has been going on for over fifty years with no resolution in sight. Leiber and Stoller were still in their teens when they started working with some of the pioneers of rock and roll, writing such hits as "Hound Dog," which eventually became a #1 record for Elvis Presley. Jerry and Mike became the King’s favorite songwriters, giving him "Jailhouse Rock" and other #1 songs. Their string of hits with the Coasters, including "Yakety Yak," "Poison Ivy," and "Charlie Brown," are a part of rock 'n' roll history. They founded their own music label and introduced novel instrumentation into their hits for the Drifters and Ben E. King, including "On Broadway" and "Stand by Me." They worked with everyone from Phil Spector to Burt Bacharach and Peggy Lee. Their smash musical Smokey Joe’s Café became the longest-running musical revue in Broadway history. Lively, colorful, and irreverent, Hound Dog describes how two youngsters with an insatiable love of good old American R&B created the soundtrack for a generation.

  • Elvis The Rebel and the King Book
    Item #: EPAM3719
The Rebel & The King is a celebratory, first-person account written by Academy Award-nominated actor, Nick Adams. The book delves into his close friendship with Elvis Presley during their whirlwind eight days in Memphis when Presley returned to Tupelo for his Homecoming Concert in 1956. The book was posthumously published by Nick Adams' daughter, Allyson Adams, after she discovered the unedited manuscript in a box of her father's memorabilia. The book includes facsimile of original text, edited version, 15 photos (some never before seen), and a foreword by Allyson Adams. Elvis Presley had just exploded on the American scene and was filming his first movie, Love Me Tender, when he introduced himself to Nick Adams on the backlot of 20th Century Fox. Nick was a struggling actor, part of the Rebel Without A Cause gang and showed Elvis the town, introducing him to Natalie Wood. Nick was infamous for writing about his famous friends, including James Dean, and he and Elvis became fast friends. "I would rather live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb. And that was the first thing that came to my mind when I sat down to write this story about Elvis.” Nick Adams, 1956.

To answer that very question, an online campaign, I AM AN ELVIS FAN, was created to invite fans, from the most die-hard devotees to the more casual admirers, to vote for their favorite recordings by Elvis from seven musical genres. These categories, which survey the broad musical spectrum Elvis covered throughout his long and varied career, were '50s, '60s, Country, Movies, Love Songs, Gospel and In Concert. The categories and tracks were posted at www.iamanelvisfan.com, where the voters selected their three top choices in each genre.

During the same voting period, Elvis Presley Enterprises also invited fans to upload photos of themselves to be used in an exclusive Elvis photo mosaic. The mosaic, comprised of thousands of fans' images, is also used as the cover of this album package.

So after casting hundreds of thousands of votes, the fans have spoken, and here you have it. I AM AN ELVIS FAN - a compilation FOR Elvis fans, BY Elvis fans.

  • Elvis Alfred Wertheimer Paperback Book
    Item #: EPAM3399
In 1956, a twenty-one-year-old singer named Elvis Presley was at the beginning of his remarkable career. Alfred Wertheimer, a young New York photojournalist, was asked by Elvis' new label, RCA Victor, to photograph their new artist. In the course of his one-day assignment for RCA, Wertheimer was struck by the stunningly photogenic performer and felt compelled to continue documenting the everyday moments in Elvis' life during that crucial year.

Wertheimer's unobtrusive photographs of Elvis in performance, with his fans, in the recording studio, and at home with his family present a unique look at one of the world's most famous cultural figures. These images were the first and last unguarded look at Elvis, and also constitute an important visual document of post-World War II America.

With hundreds of gorgeously reproduced high-quality prints, Elvis is the result of a special alchemy between an exceptionally talented photographer and a charismatic young man on the brink of superstardom.

  • Elvis Heartbreak Hotel 1956 MerlinGold Coin
    Item #: EPAM3600
With a voice that was equal parts danger and delight and with hips that shook to the new beat that shocked 1950s America, it’s no wonder that millions revere Elvis Presley® as “the King of Rock and Roll.” If you are one of the King’s loyal musical subjects, you’ll want to own this unique collectible coin in tribute to Elvis Presley’s chart-topping hits as replica 45 RPM records, Elvis #1 Gold. In 1955 RCA Records obtained Elvis Presley’s recording contract from Sun Records, setting the stage for his first pop #1 hit, “Heartbreak Hotel.” Written by Mae Boren Axton, a high school teacher and music promoter, and singer-songwriter Tommy Durden. The tune’s haunting lyrics were inspired by a news item Durden had read about a man who killed himself, leaving a note with a single, sorrowful line, “I walk a lonely street.” Boren suggested that there should be a “Heartbreak Hotel” at the end of the street, and the song was written. Recorded at Presley’s first recording session for RCA on January 10, 1956 with Chet Atkins and Floyd Cramer joining in with his regular band, the Blue Moon Boys, it was shipped as a single on January 27, and topped the charts by spring.
